Named as fastest growing place in England and Wales

CORBY has hit national headlines this month as statistics have shown it is the fastest growing place in the country.

Corby took top spot in The Sunday Times’ analysis of Land Registry data – the borough having the highest proportion of new home sales in England and Wales over the past 20 years.

The analysis shows that a quarter of all homes in Corby bought since 1995 were new builds; evidence of the amount of investment and regeneration work that has taken place locally over the last two decades.

And Corby’s growth is set to continue – work throughout the borough is ongoing, including a total of 1,445 new homes being delivered just over the last three years. This has been recognised by the Office for National Statistics, which names the borough as one of the top three authorities in the country in terms of net additional homes per 1,000 dwellings for 2012/13.

Leader of Corby Borough Council, Cllr Tom Beattie, said: “We are very proud of what we have achieved here in Corby over the last decade and it is a true sign of the borough’s continued ambition and investment in growth and regeneration to be named in the national media once again as the fastest growing place in the country.

“However, Corby’s continued successful growth is not just through the building of more houses. As a local authority we are dedicated to ensuring that any builds consisting of over 15 new homes have 30 per cent which are affordable, and alongside these new homes we are also investing in facilities, jobs, skills, infrastructure and services.

“All of these things hand-in-hand have resulted in a borough that the whole community can be proud of and we aim to ensure this continues.”

The council reports it is improving its current housing stock and this year has invested in improvements to 256 council homes. The council is also adding to its housing stock with a total of 82 new builds being social housing properties over the last four years and a total of 58 more being built in the council’s current housing programme.
